I remember the smell most of all. Yerba mate and leather and wool. I think I've always had the idea that other places have their unique smells, the thing that makes you remember that where you are is its own place. Argentina smells of leather and wool. Seattle smells of wet trees and coffee. Sacramento of a certain salty-stinky tree. My house smells of spices -- every customer who stops at the office asks what I'm cooking. My mother's smells of baking bread and now of green plants. If smell is the most physical trigger of memory, then it's no wonder I have so many choose from
